day 7 - back to blogging & punk

Hey folks, as you noticed I didn't write anything this weekend... the upcoming exams are really eating my time and blocking me from blogging.. Happily I did find a good deal of time to spend on my guitar playing (mostly during pauses I take while studying.
It's already late here so I'll be quick so I can go to sleep soon:
Pennywise is just one awesome punk band, so are their songs. The song I'm learning from them now is Fuck Authority (yeah, accompanied by an as-awesome name ;))

The quality isn't that great, but you get the point. I really like the shredding on my guitar, just some easy chords, distortion, volume maxed ^^

Also thanks everyone for the positive comments on the small sample I posted in my previous post on friday, I know it's really amateuristic and can be done waaaay better, but hey that's why I'm learning guitar! If I feel like it (and my parents are not sleeping) I might be uploading another thing tommorow. Only time will tell if and what it'll be.

day 4 - my guitar

Ok so today I've been busy with finding out where my guitar actually comes from. I got it from my uncle, without much information. First of all, the type was a pain to find, looks like Gibson Explorer, but with some modifications. After browsing the internet for some time with a friend, I found out that it's actually a Gibson Explorer xpl, made only in 1985 (the serial number confirms that). Only a few 1000 of them exist today, so that's quite cool :) More information I found on http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Support/SerialNumberSearch/ . My guitar happens to be made in Nashville, in the 8th of April. You might find this boring, but for me it's awesome to know xd
Apart from that I've been studying and going to class. As many of you asked for a video/record of something I played, I've looked for a way to upload mp3's and found it (yay!). Don't expect too much from it, recorded that the first 15mins I started playing that song, 2 days earlier (it's the Blood Bound intro) .

day 3 - rockin'

Hey there, don't got much time so I'll just be posting the tabs I'm learning atm!

Yes, I know this has already been tabbed! But this sounds much more accurate 
and slightly easier to play fast. It's all played on one guitar from what I 
hear.  I was using the track from 'The Mark, Tom and Travis Show (The Enema 
Strikes Back)' as my reference.

My advice is to just crank up the distortion and play it! The song is very 
easy to play because it's only power chords and sing along to it.  The 
lyrics are not hard and are easily sung along with.

I am not going to tab the rhythm, you can get that from the cd, but use a 
strum not all downstrokes.  You can get the speed better that way :)

day 2 - some heavy riffs

Ok so, first of all i want to say this: I've been playing an acoustic guitar for about 1 year now. Just so you all know ;)

I woke up this morning thinking by myself, 'what new song is it going to be today?'. While still exercising my Knockin' on Heavens door solo and intro, something popped into my mind so I went looking for it. Pokemon theme. Yes, the old one :p It was a bit harder to find tabs for it then usual, but I did find them. That solo is just awesome, but hard and I found no tabs that exactly show the solo played in the studio version. Instead I just practised on the string-bending with my fingers and not with the lever that my Gibson has for it. (Oh you might have noticed, I uploaded a small picture of me & my guitar on the left, comment here what you think about that sweet baby! :p)
In the bus back from school, my iPod played the song Faster by Within Temptation, and I totally couldn't resist that awesome guitar riff. Looked it up instantly and tried it. Sounds ok, but there is something missing. My amplifier has to be configurated to make the right sound for it, definitely. By google'ing 'faster withing temptation amp settings' I found some lousy thread about it but nothing really helpfull. Typing in some other key words and phrases brought me to some thread about amp settings for a metal sound. I played around with them a little, and got an awesome sound out of my amp, that reminded me of some really heavy metal (Amon Amarth).
After also trying Pursuit of Vikings by Amon Amarth (you really have to try that intro riff, it sounds so beast!) i stumbled upon another song I used to listen to a lot: Blood Bound by Hammerfall.
Easy, and sounds powerful, that's what I want for my second day of playing the electric guitar!

day 1 - stringing my guitar

Today I got my uncle's old electric Gibson guitar, bought a new set of strings for it and attached them myself. Was a real pain, but it sounds just awesome now :)
